    Looks good--but I never heard of an M-Frame on a modern revolver.

    J=M36,60 size
    K=M19,66 size
    L=586,686 size
    N=M29,629 size

    Rugster--This was a test, wasn't it?

    O.K. , here we go (again).....
    j frame = small = models 60,36,34 ect....
    k frame = medium = models 10,15,14,19 ect....
    l frame = med. heavy duty? = 585,686 ect....
    n frame = large (mostly magnuns) = 27,28,29,629, ect...
    I frame was the old small (j frame) untill they made some
    basic improvements , sometimes a slightly shorter grip frame ...
    No M frame that Im aware of ??? Ive been a S&W collector for over 22
    years as well as a certified (armory) gunsmith......
    hope this helps a little ..............................

    I was always under the impression that "M" frame was the factory designation for the origional "Lady Smith" .22's.

    I know the book is no good but, according to the Standard Catalog of S&W:

    There were the "I" frame guns that were the first hand ejector frame introduced and was later replaced by the "J" frame.

    An "Improved I Frame" that was slightly longer in the cylinder opening than the "I" frame. "I" was 1.5"; "Improved I" was 1.515" long and "J" is 1.645".

    The "M" frame is refered to as the tiny frame size of the original 22 LadySmith revolvers of the early twentiety century.

    My I frame Smith shoots the S&W Long cartridge. Neat little revolver with 3" BBL and birds head grips.

    Woodsrunner has it. According to Numrich it's a hand ejector "Ladysmith" in 22 long. The Ladysmith was intro. before WWII.
