AR Side Charging Upper

I haven't seen it but a charging handle is probably located
on the side and keyed to the bolt carrier as it should be on any self respecting automatic weapon.
The charging system on the AR15 is a disaster that was little improved by that Mickey Mouse "forward assist" design fix. The charging handle is in the wrong place in the rear and in your face, making you reposition the rifle and give up your sight picture to operate it.
With a scope mounted on a flat top, getting to it is even worse.
The tiny, forward assist has no mechanical advantage to overcome minor problems in chambering owing to dirt or a dinged round and a jam will easily ensue. A 1/2# lead hammer on a short cable would be a good accessory to assist the forward assist.
Besides the charging system, the main problem with this gun as a combat arm is that it needs a driving spring twice the current strength and the gas system upsized to operate against it.

Why would you need to pull the charging handle back while aiming the weapon? The bolt stays open after the last round is fired so the only thing needed is to drop the mag, insert a new one and hit the bolt release. The whole reason behind putting the charging handle behing the bolt was to get it out or the way and reduce the possibility of having the handle break off and render the weapon useless.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

Whatever you have, you need to practice with it and know it inside out. Novel, schmovel, gimmick. It looks like a lot more dirt would enter. Maybe next they'll put a sliding piece to cover the hole. Yeah! it could be a safety, that's it. Novel! (If it isn't broke...)

In theory with guns having a slide stop you only have to charge once. However, in military practice there are often times when you have to operate a charging handle more than once to clear a jam or a failure to feed.
Many an Army boot, stick or stone has struck an M1 operating handle to open or close it. They were of course forged steel not aluminum.
In Vietnam many soldiers were bayoneted while trying to clear AR jams.
A side mounted operating handle is a step in the right direction.

Hummmmmmmm sounds alot like the AR 180 or the AR 180B. This is one of the improvments that made the AR 180 system a much better rifle than the AR 15 types in the early part of the conflict. Today it is a different story. Many refinements have conme to the AR 15 type weapons systems. Check out the AR 180 rifle system and tell me what you think. Just my 2 cents
