Anyone have an opinion on it? Seems to be a good deal if it shoots near as good as the 700.

I used to own a 710 in 30/06 nd for the money it is damn good rifle.I traded it in on my M1A nd thats the only reason I got rid of it.For your first hunting rifle on a budget it is more than fine.I paid $309.00+ tax for mine new from Academy Sporting Goods. Some say the accuracy is questionble but I never experienced bad acuuracy even with the little cheap scope that is supplied but you would benefit replacing it with a better more exspensive scope.

These guns are genuine pieces of crap and we cant understand why Remington would even put their name on it. The bolts are very rough and do not operate very well. We had heard there was a recall on these so we called Remington and asked about this and they said that they where taking these back and repolishing the bolt sleeve to make it smoother ,but there was not a recall. ALso they are fiberglass and look like a piece of year 2500 hardware. Terrible product.

I agree with Eric. I found nothing wrong with my 710. Somewhere
there is an in-depth article outlining all of the manufacturing
processes they have changed in making this rifle. They have done
some interesting things. Think about it, most bolt action rifles
are basically the same design for the past century. I think it is
worth looking at and seeing if you like the feel. The bolt is a little stiffer than a 700 out of the box, but it feels a ton better to me than a Savage. I smoothed mine up quite a bit by working the action and a quick rub with some jewelry polish. (which was also a tip for breakin in the barrel, run some Flitz jewelry polish through the barrel a couple of times)
I think it is a fine rifle worthy of your consideration especially for the cost conscious consumer. (po' boys like me)

but I confess to wanting a 700 sendero stainless fluted.

I dont have one but I recommended one to my Brother in law who took up Hunting when he Married Into the family.I had loaned him one of my High Powered Rifles the last two years. But he now wants one of his own,so I recommended the Savage Full package.Well they didnt have the Savage so I told him I would buy the REM 710 and he did.We took it out to the range, and lined it up.There isnt a thing wrong with the way it shot it shot good groups, and over all I would recommend it.I have heard horror tales on it but this gun was a great Bargain.

    Best!!
