.257 wthby problem...
i recentlyhad a 257 wthby conversion on a lh rem 700 (previously 7mm). the action was trued and lugs lapped. I used a douglas premium bbl. 26 in pipe w a 11degree crown.
Here is the problem. The gun shot great, less than moa. the problem is case expansion. I used both factory loads and reloads, the reloads were new federal brass trimmed to length, fed mag primer 62 grains of imr 4831 and nosler 120 grain partion bullets. the case expansion was aprox .004. the cases were very difficult to extract. It did this with both brass and nickel cases.
After this was discovered the reamer was checked and the dimensions were within limits. headspace was confirmed again, and casting was made and found to be ok. another barrel was installed and the same problem persisted.
Does anyone kow the extent of the length of freebore that wthby uses in factory rifles? Any other thoughts of expansion other than
freebore? I know that the load is not excessive and I do not think that the factory ammo would be either. any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated before I try another barrel from a different manfacture. thanks.
If guns cause crime, all mine are defective.

Try some remington or winchester brass, I had a problem with federal casses in a 308, went to another brand of cases and no more problems, All so no more Federal brass. All so drope back 4 grans on your powder, and seat the bullet deeper, you may have a tight chamber, all so 4 thousands expancion is a little high. GOOD LUCK 0
