Hoppes double clay pigeon thrower" Help"
I just purchased a Hoppes double clay pigeon thrower, it was just a cheap one. I can't seem to get it adjusted right, it keeps breaking the targets especially when throwing doubles. I adjusted it per manufactuer's instructions. It has little dimples on the bottom of the throwing surface that are designed to help hold the pigeon. I think they might be the culprit. Any suggestions besides using it for a boat anchor.
I also have it mounted to a wire spool, perhaps this is to ridgid, what do you think???

I was using my hoppes today! You need to make sure the clays are touching the rubber
bumper on the throwing arm, if the clay is not snug, it will not throw, I found the positions marked on the arm are not useful, by trial and error I found the best positions for the birds, and marked the spots with a marker.
The dimples sound like a improvement, I had to score mine with a utility knife so the clays would not slide back on high throws!
I also mounted mine to a piece of 16 ga steel so I can clamp it to the tables at the local ranges, a couple "c" clamps, and it is one with the bench!
I got mine 10+ years ago at a auction, no instructions at all,
It did take a bit of tweaking" to get it working, but after a day like today
with 1-1/2 boxes of clays thrown for my family and myself, it was worth it!0 -
Just a suggestion - Back off on the spring tension, I have mine set just tight enough to remove any slack. Mine also came with this little gaping tool to measure the gap space on the trowing arm where the pigeon slide threw - good luck. 0
