I load 24gr. of Win. 296 powder under a 240gr. jacketed bullet. Be sure to crimp the case.

Ive harvested a few Whitetails with the 240gr soft point.Using Horanady bullets they mushroom to .50 cal and above. And make nice clean kills.

    Best!!

    Hello "posh"

In addition to Win. 296, I also like H110. Go to the Hodgdon web site and they will have loading data there for almost any cartridge you want.

I also vote for the "XTP's". If you pick your shot and put it where it needs to be on the shoulder or head, a hog will go down. A poorly placed shot can also get you hurt/angry hog in your lap. Not much of a worry with deer, but a poorly placed one may mean that you will loose the deer.

    Best Regards

I Like 21grns of 2400 under a hornady 240grn XTP-HP. Killed several deer with it.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to start off with the Hornady 240 gr HP-XTP with 24 gr of 296 since this seems to be most popular load and the CCI Magnum primer because the Speer Manual specifies this primer with this load. Best regards, posh.

I have had tremendous luck with hornady 300 gr. jacketed soft points on deer especially in cover . 2400 powder works best with this load in my 629 but it is a handfull.
