J C Higgins Model 50
I recently acquired this rifle in 30-06 . Can anyone tell me where a good spot to order parts would be? Also what is the reputation of this model?

Neither the Blue Book nor Numrich cross over lists show a J.C. Higgins (Sears) model 50. To buy parts you need to know who manufactured the rifle for Sears, then look for parts for the underlying model under the manufacturers name. It could be High Standard, Stevens, Sako or others.
Unfortunately the cross over lists are not 100% accurate and may not be exhaustive. They show my model 30 .22 semi auto as a High Standard Pump. Not likely. Perhaps someone on the board has one of these and has done some further research and can help you.

Hey Feller--Around 1950 or so, High Standard made some rifles using FN Mauser actions and sold them under the J.C. Higgins brand. Look it over real close and you might find some identification marks under the wood. I have a friend that has one of these in .300 Savage and they were pretty nice in their day. Some might turn up their nose at the Sears brand but in this case I'd like to have about 50 of 'em. If you have access to Olson's book Mauser Rifles you can see this in print on page 270. 0
