I don't know of any WBY cartridges being used for 1000 yard competition. Why not just buy a Sako TRG-S in 338 Lapua? Cost less than a WBY rifle. Sell your WBY and buy the Sako. The darling of the long range shooters now is the 6.5X284. At one time the 6.5X300 WBY was used for 1000 yard competition.

Funny you mention that caliber, the weatherby I have is barreled with a pac-nor 26" stainless barrel for 6.5-06 ackley improved. I have a 280 ackley on a 700 action which I feel is a better gun, so I was going to build a big 30 or higher caliber out of the MK V action. I know a guy here who just won a 1000yd competition with a 300wthby on a stoli action. I think he shot a 4+" group with it. I can't seem to find anyone around here who is serious enough about shooting to take an interest in the rifle as-is. I stated that she goes with everything but the mounts for $1000 or best offer. There is much more than that invested, especially considering a set of $280 redding custom series dies which go with it. So, my next move was to just rebarrel it for a nice 30 caliber magnum round. I don't necessarily want to compete with it, but I would like a gun capable of true accuracy at 1000yds and efficient kill energy at that range. Any suggestions? I know you deal with the big stuff on a regular basis. Thanks.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

I've never had the pleasure of shooting either of those calibers, but I've alway's been extremley impressed with the ballistic's of the 340. Any cartridge that's still packing over a ton of energy at 500 yrds is serious power.

I HAVE A .300 H&H IMP. (SAME AS .300 WEATHERBY IMP., I SHOOT .300 WTHBY. TO FIRE FORM CASES) VERY ACCURATE (PRESICE). 165 GN BULLETS AT 3500 FPS, SUB. .5 MOA WHEN THE RIFLE WAS NEW.

I cant answer your question, no experience with those calibers. I was thinking though, why dont you remove the barrel, and attempt to sell the gun on eb** by selling just the barrel. Then see if you can sell the receiver at auction. I dont know if this would get you enough money for it though?

The dies you can sell on eb** also.

robsguns, I thought of parting it out and selling it that way. I just don't know what people would want to put into it. I was going to keep the WTHBY action because the bolt face would grab the WTHBY mag cases with no gunsmithing work at all, besides the fact that they are very strong actions. Do you have an idea of the top of your head as to what the action/barrel/dies would go for? High & Low values?

MIKE WHISKEY, tell me more. What action are you using for that rifle? What kind of long range accuracy? What are your professional/personal experiences with the MK V actions? should I sell it and build on something else, or will this action do the trick? I only have 700rem actions on the other custom stuff. The trigger on the MK V breaks beautifully(it's been worked), so I figure if the action will perform, then why not go to a wthby 30 or 34 caliber magnum and have some precise horsepower. Tell me what you think. Thanks.

I do not know the values of the items. I have no experience with these brands of items, and have not been shopping for these types of items, sorry I cant help more. I think you may want to post this discussion on general discussion before it gets locked out and no more replies are allowed, as you really need more information from people more knowledgeable of the items, just a suggestion. I'd also take a look at what these items are bringing on auction, as I am sure you probably may have done, or are planning on. I'd also check on Numrich Gun Parts web site to see what the individual parts are worth in their catalog. Good luck.

THE RIFLE HAS A P-17 ENFIELD ACTION, MATCH 1/12 S.S. BARREL, W/D/T TRIGGER. THE RIFLE HAS ABOUT 2 THOUSAND RDS THROUGH IT AND HAS BEEN IN A FIRE SO PRESICION IS FALLING OFF A LITTLE (WILL STILL DO SUB. MOA)AS TO THE MK-5 ACTION- I'VE WORKED ON A FEW AND THEY CERTAINLY ARE GOOD ACTIONS (PROBALBY BETTER THAN THE REM 700) IF YOU WANT A LONG RANGE RIG I'D HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH USING ONE. THE .300 H&H IMP. SEEMS TO BE MORE EFFICIENT THAN THE .300 WEATHERBY AS I CAN GET THE SAME VEL. WITH LESS POWDER AND IT HOLDS ABOUT 5 MORE GRAINS THAN A WEATHERBY. YOU ALSO HAVE THE ABILITY TO SHOOT ANY .30 BELTED MAG. IN IT IN A PINCH. I RECENTLY RECHAMBERED A CUSTOMERS 721 (HEAVEY BARREL) 300 H&H TO THE IMP. AND FIRED 2 .4" FIVE SHOT GROUPS USEING REM. FACTORY .300 WEATHERBY AMMO

MIKE WHISKEY, thanks for your reply. I will e-mail you with some questions I have about the differences between the 300 wthby imp and the 300 H&H imp, as I am sure we are off topic enough to be locked out.

robsguns, I am currently researching your avenues to get some sort of idea, thanks for the hints.
