Around here ive been seeing $350-500 depending on condition. $500 would be a near perfect MINT with some extras. For non-ffl transfers i get a GOOD bill of sale..ID#,Ser#,adress, ect. If its someone i dont know or dont feel well about, I ask that they will allow me to check the serial with the PD. If they start in with "well, i dont have the time right now..ect" then your moneys usally better in your pocket. Quick call to the detective division or firearms unit and the deals done.

I think it was back in the 80's when importers had to start marking
the surplus guns they imported. I have a Carbine that is so
marked. They started marking them on the underside of the barrel.
Then started marking them on the barrel where the stock/handguard
    would cover it.
Check on the bottom of the barrel for importer markings. If none
are visable, ask to take the stock off. When you pull the barrel/
action out of the stock, check on the barrel for importer markings.
If there are no importer markings it makes it worth more than one
that is marked. I have no idea what Carbines are selling for,
but one would have to be mint, barrel/receiver matching for me
to give 500 for it. (maybe I am cheap)

Don't send flowers when I die. Send money now, I can buy more ammo.

You didn't give us enough information. There is ALWAYS a manufacturers name on the receiver; it is probably on the top under the rear sight. We need that, plus the serial #. Also, ALL markings on the stock; if it really IS original USGI, it WILL have markings. You need to remove the action from the stock, as sometimes the importer marking is below the wood line.

Even with all that info, we REALLY need photos before advising you to pay $500. At this point, I suspect that it is NOT worth that much.

Unless you're friendly with the local police, there's no way that the average guy can determine if a gun has been stolen.

well , we have sold a bunch of m-1 carbines , they are all over the place (look on gunbroker-auction arms -shotgunnnews-gun list , ect.),
plenty to be had...I feel that the asking price of $500 is a premium
price for an average m-1.....a little story about "whats it worth" -
a few years back in our shop a fellow came in with an "inexpensive"
gun , wanting to sell it...one of the Ole Hang-outs in the shop at the time just had to speak up and pronounce that the gun in question
wasnt worth a thin dime and wouldnt have it... well one of the other
ole hangouts in the shop at the time causauly spoke up and told the other guy (mister not worth a dime): "If I hand put you out in the field in front of the BULL , (our shop is out in the country , we have cattle on three sides of the shop ), and
go around and kick the bull in the goodies , he charges you , What would you pay for that gun then ???? " Hence , its worth what you think,
as what you are willing to pay at the time , and all to easy to pay well over market value....Good Luck and dont let a "bull" make you pay to much for anything...........azgunnut2@yahoo.com.............
