You are looking at some of my favorite guns,My Biggest .30 caliber want is the M-1 Garand. But I must say the Mini-30 is fun and reliable and there are plenty of aftermarket Pre Ban Mags.

    Best!!

    Mini 30's are notoriously inaccurate.

You cant go wrong with the Springfield M1A. It will cost you more, but it is money well spent. I have a couple M1A's, and several Mini's although .223 cal not 7.62. The M1A is inherently more accurate than the Ruger mini-14's and mini-30's, but there are things that can be done to both rifles to improve their accuracy if you are interested in a tack driver.
Ammo for the mini-30 can be had cheaper than 7.62 M1A ammo, but there is a wider variety of bullets available for the 7.62 if you reload.
Federal and Black Hills make some excellent match ammo in 7.62x51 aka .308.

Try the 7.62X57, far and above the best of them all. (AKA the 30-06)

How did we know '06 was gonna say that! I have to agree, though. I would spend the extra and pick up the M1A or the Daddy of 'em all, Garand. I used to really want a mini-thirty, but I decided if I am gonna get a thirty....might as well be one that can reach out there a ways. And they got some sweet set ups at SA...I was coincidentally just a few minutes ago looking at my August issue of Am. Rifleman which highlights the M14/M1A

    Try the 7.62X57, . . . . (AKA the 30-06)

My '06's seem to be more like 63mm (+) long.
Am I overlooking the pervasive miniaturization exemplified by these new short magnums?

Just My 2 cents, I LOVE my M1A and my M1 Grand
Your money, on the M1A will hold its value ahole lot longer and I think the M1a is just more fun to shoot.

    Good luck-

Ross, you are correct!!!! The .30-06 is 63.34MM. I don't know where that 57 came from, must of been a brain fart
