Remington used to sell barreled actions to brownells and numrich gun parts and a few licenced gunsmith armorors, Thay stopped doing this a couple years ago.
What people are doing now is buying a new or used gun, Stripping them down and selling the parts, To regain some money for your custom parts you are about to need.

Theres a guy in gun list magazine that strips remington 700 guns down and sells the actions, dos not keep a steady add in there but often I see it. Pick up a copy of gun list.
Also, you might get lucky and post a wanted add all over your favorite sites.
    Good luck

    thanks for the information hotrodusa

one other question i have is, if i go and purchase a new rifle like you said most people are doing now, will the basic rem 700 ADL/BDL action be sufficient, or would it require an action from a sendero or varmint model rifle? thanks again

sendero and varmint actions are the same as the rest of the model 700 actions, No difference.
When buying, Keep in mind if you want a blued or stainless, long or short action, and get the correct bolt face, Unless you you plan on having some major rework of the bolt such as an ejector.
One more thing to keep in mind after the above mentioned, Buy a rifle that you will be able to sell the stock and barrel easly, Ask around and whatch the auctions on the internet for these and see if a synthetic or wood stock will put more money back in your pocket at the end, same with the barrel, what caliber is easy to sell and brings the most money. I myself keep a good eye out for this and the new ultra mag barrels are not selling well.
I just looked in two of my gun list mags and could not find the add I see once in a while for remington actions.
    Good luck

CWINN, I think chesters was the place I was talking about seeing actions for sale in gun list mag. You could give him a call. If I remember right for what he wanted for an action you could buy a new gun and sell the barrel and stock and and it would be about the same price, and you can buy the gun at a local dealer and save shipping costs. One moe advantage of buying a complete gun you will get a recoil lug, When you buy a action it dont come with a recoil lug. Maybe that would be ok for you though if your going to use a aftermarket recoil lug.
I'd check with chesters first, maybe he has a good price for what you need.
also, Maybe brownells or numrich gun parts has what you need, Check with them too.

700 ADL Synthetic from Wally World will give you the action. No difference in the action among the 700 except the BDL has a detachable or or hinged floorplate and the ADL does not. If I was building one tonite (and there is one in the works) it will be a closed action (ADL) type. GHD

If you have an Academy Sports store near, I believe they have
the 700 Synthetic for $349. I bought one last year from them
for 329. It was cheaper than WallyWorld.

thanks for all the help and info guys.

one more thing (you guys getting tired of my dumb questions yet?) can any barrel be used with the adl action? im looking at a shilen #8 barrel and i was wondering if it will work

The barrel has got to be threaded for the action. Rem, Win, Ruger, Weatherby, threads are all different. The Shilen barrel will work fine if threaded correctly. You can't do this in you garage with a pair of vice-grips! Not trying to be a smart... but this is why this forum exists! No question is a dumb question! Keep asking and we'll keep trying to answer!! CWIN,

Brownell's has the Shilen barrel threaded and short
chamberedfor the Rem. 700, but not in the #8 contour.
Have gunsmith install it and finish chambering it.
Didn't check the price, you might find a gunsmith that will
    thread and chamber one cheaper.
We had one of the Shilen threaded barrels, .270 Win. put on
an '09 Argentine Mauser. Left it at 26 inches, that thing is
    a tack driver!!!!

One other suggestion is to go to gunshows. Lots of times, someone there has that box or barrel full of junk guns, you know, with blown out barrels, busted stocks, bent barrels, etc. that's a good place to get used actions and throw away the rest.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.
