1879 Springfirld

Picked up an 1879 Springfield carbine. Having never owned a trapdoored 45-70 before I need some good smokeless 400 grain plain base loading data. The bullets I have a sized .460 and are the Beartooth Bullets LfN style. Thanks in advance.

  I have not used it myself,but have seen my buddy's targets.He is useing the Clean Shot Black powder substitute.I have to admitt it seemed to be working good,Little to no smoke doesn't seem to foul the bore near as bad as pyrodex.Not smokeless but from what I've seen it is worth a try.Loaded 1 for 1 as BP.Keep in mind the goverment load for cavelry carbines was 50gr instead of 70.Good Luck,Roger(poopah)
