AR15 Jams w/Cheap Ammo
Is it safe to assume that shooting Wolf's cheapest ammo is partially to blame for a clean gun not properly ejecting and loading a new round? When I look into the breech, I see one round kind of taking up space, and another looking like it's got no place to go. Happens with Orilite as well as Thermold magazines. I have to work the action 2 or 3 times per 30 round magazine. It's a newly acquired piece, a little on the used-side with no forward assist, but it seems like a pretty good shooter. Thanks for the help. greg

Greg,
Check it with some different ammo and see if it
does the same. I recall having a problem with some
Olympic Arms AR's in the early 90's with some of the
cheap Chinese ammo of that time. When we used Rem.,
Fed., or Win. ammo they worked fine.

Don't send flowers when I die. Send money now, I can buy more ammo.0 -
You might see if the frount of the mag follower is droping down and letting it feed more than one round
if that is happening check with cdnn and get some green mag followers
with the long frount leg

This AR had a history of decent ejection? No reported problems from the seller? When was the last time the chamber was cleaned out with a chamber brush?
Wolf ammo is lacquered - some other brands with steel cases are too; keeps 'em from rusting. This will get sticky if left too long in a warm chamber. If that chamber happens to be dirty as well, only makes things more likely to screw up.0 -
Most helpful, snarlgard and spclark. Thank you, greg

Clean the gun out really good, and also clean the gas tube, could have years of cheap ammo crud in it or something.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
The sound of a 12 gauge pump clears a house fatser than Rosie O eats a Big Mac !0 -
clean the gun and gas tube throroughly and check all your mags for cracks, defects, etc. try different ammo (non-lacquercoated) and see if it helps. these 3 things are cause for more cursing in AR type rfiles than anything else 0 -
I had a problem like yours once. I had a cromed lined barrel 1in 9 twist that did not like cheap ammo, nor light bullets. I got rid of the cromed lined barrel and got a 1 in 7 twist non-cromed barrel, Ever sence I did that I have no problems with any ammo as of yet.
I'd take your gun all apart first and clean it up as though you were gonna eat off of it first, Before spending money on parts you may not need.
There is so much to learn about this rifle you should concider a good book that tells the history and explains everything amaginable, cleaning, different models, versions, parts list, diagrams, and trouble shooting.
Just my experiance
Good luck

Olympic arms cautions against the wolf or any waxed or lacquered steel cases . The coating melts off in the chamber leaving a sticky mess. I would assume the situation would be the same with any semiauto.

Before you clean the entire gas system, check to make sure that the gas rings are properly positioned.
If this doesn't do the trick try replacing your extractor spring. AR's are notorious for these weakening after long use.0
