My Pre-ban AR-15?
I just recently bought a preban ar-15 from a guy at a gun show.I'm trying to make sure that the rifle is actually a preban, just to be on the safe side.I've already tried calling the manufacturer, but I never get an answer.Does anyone know of any websites that would tell me if the serial number on my gun is for a preban? It's a Rock Island Armory ar-15.
Thanks,
Thanks,

I just checked Kuleck & Duff's The AR-15 Complete Owner's Guide which I feel is the best of the AR books out there. I sorry to say that, according to their listing of prebans, Rock Island Armory never made ARs. Anything marked Rock River Arms is postban. 0 -
Kirkstone - Thats wierd, I could swear I've had 2 Rock Island Armory AR's, the last one I sold about 8 years ago, I'd picked it up walking around a gunshow in Wichita Kansas for $300 ... all the pin holes were wallowed out so nothing was tight, had a Colt upper on it with an offset bushing or pin (I don't remember which) ... now wish I still had it ... just because ...

I had never heard of Rock Island ar's till one dropped in my lap. There is next to nothing published on them, and the little info I found dated the whole run before 94. This is only the second ive heard of, and if i didnt have one, id say it didnt exsist. If anyone can find any info on this, please post it!

I just wanted to say thanks for the info.I believe I've found what I'm lookin for at the link you posted.I'm pretty sure that my rifle is a post and not a pre.I was wondering if you guys might be able to tell me how I can find the guy that sold me this rifle.Like I said,I bought it at the gun show.I've already checked the coliseum and they don't have a list of vendors. The reciept he used was for a gun store he used to own.So I know he used to be a dealer, but the store's gone and someone already has his old number. Is there anyway I could track him down through his old dealer info.,and if so where could I find this info?I'm thankful for any info and advice anyone has.
Thanks,0 -
All Rock Island, Calvery Arms & Olympic PRC lowers are post ban. I see too many walking around at shows that are "felony guns" with M16 parts and/or Preban uppers on postban lowers. That is why I carry the serial number list with me.
As far as "wobbly" fits - often someone has set it up with a dias and M16 parts to make it "run". That can wear out the takedown holes when not done properly - let alone being illegal.0 -
ME - not to be disagreeable or anything, but like I said earlier, I sold it 8 years ago, I had bought it 2-3 years prior to that and it was old and worn then ... this was well before the 94 weapons ban, and the first one I had was in the mid 80's and it was old and worn too ... I used to have info on them (Rock Island) but threw it away when I could't get in touch them ... before I knew better
