Just my opinion, but I am fond of BSA scopes. Relatively inexpensive and I have never had a problem with one. Bought a BSA Deerhunter for my sons 22 the other day. 4x32 for only $25.00. Nice little scope. The one on my .270 is a 3x9 variable. Had it on there for several years and no problems at all. 0 -
I myself like Nikon.I have a Nikon BuckMaster 3-9x50 on my main Deer and Hog Rifle and it has never done me wrong or sent my shots anywhere but where I want them to go.My Buckmaster was $300.00 but they have a 3-9x40 for around $200.00.They are great scopes.Leupold is good also and are around the same price. If you want a good cheap scope try BSA or Bushnell. But remember you get what you pay for.I reccomend the Nikon Buckmaster for a good quality scope which I think is still resoasbly priced. It wont be a bad buy.

Have had decent sucess with the BSA's as far as economical scopes. First few 3-9's went on anything from 22's to 257 roberts with no problems. Next batch sent back 2 out of 5! Were replaced no questions asked! The Nikon Buckmaster Series is doing a great job so far! The Monarch Series will rival anything out there. A middle of the cost game scope is the Simmons "Aetec". Extremely clear optics and very good repeatability. I'm impressed with these scopes so far! If you've got no problems with money (and probably not many of us on this forum meet this criteria) then Leopold, Zeiss, or Sworovski will work! GHD 0 -
We have a couple simmons 44 mags on are deer rifles. One another we have a tasco silver antler. They are both great scopes for the money. I would have to say the 44 mag scope is the prefered scope though. I think for the last one i paid about 80 bucks for it new. Thats my 2 cents. 0 -
Of the brands you mentioned, I will second GHD's recommendation of the Aetec. I was very suprised that it seems to perform as well as this one does. And it does have a very clear set of lenses. You can get the 3-12x44 with an illuminated reticle for less than $200 at www.natchezss.com or www.bearbasin.com
A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.0 -
For over all quality I like the Simmons,Tasco has filed Bankruptcy.Im sure there scopes are still availiable probably at good prices but you would have no warranty.
Best!!

Of the brands you listed the Simmons Atec. Don't over look Weavers Grand Slam. Very decent scope for the price. JustC has given you links to the two most competitive sites I have found for optics.

Give me a Redfield 3x9 with built in range finder, on any rifle, any day, and I'm a happy camper. I had to hand a hunting buddy my rifle for a shot at a nice bull elk one day because his (bargain) scope fogged up when the temp went below zero. 0 -
Don't know exactly what you are looking for but if I were you I would buy a used quality scope from ebay or somewhere else similar. I was looking for a Leupold scope a while back and they had some great deals on scopes that were more than half off because they were used and looked like near perfect condition. I got lucky and bought a discontiued Leupold from Bass Pro for a really good price. Just my opinion though... 0 -

I like bausch & lomb 4200 series, Or leupold vari-x III. I'm a strong believer in spending a good amout on a scope, It should last a lifetime, and most scope companys will repair or replace with only a mininum charge of about 10.00 to cover shipping costs.
I've had problems with the cheaper brands fogging up. My more expencive scopes I dont have a problem with them fogging up, Even the ones I had for quite a long time.
My rule of thumb is if you spend say 450.00 on a rifle you should spend that much on a scope. If you spend 200.00 on a 22 rimfire rifle, I'd say spend 200.00 on a scope. If you have a 2000.00 target rifle I'd spend a fist full of money on a scope.

I use a Bushnell 4X on my 30-06. Where I hunt, NorthEast MO, a shot farther than 50 yards is a rarity. I hunt to brushy hollows on my farm. With much brush to contend with, anything higher than that limits my ability to find the target. 4X seems to be just right for me. I've hit milk bottles and coyotes at about 150, but have never shot a deer more than 75 yards from my stands in 30 plus years of hunting. Most within 50. My only real problem is getting them to fall next to a road!
