AR 15 stuck shell
A friend of mine I shoot with has a ar15. He had about 40 rounds through it, and it jammed. He had a spent cartridge stuck in the barrel. We tried to get it out with needlenose pliers, thats all we had. We didn't want to force it out, and cause damage. We couldn't get it out. We didn't have anything small, and long enough to try and knock it out from the end. This is a new Olympic Arms ar15, with about 200 rounds through it. What causes this? He is also getting feeding problems with it. He is using Military ammo. He is using aftermarket mags. He was able to get it out easy at home with his cleaning kit. The end wasn't broken off. I have a mini 14, and never had this problem. Why?

Your friend needs to get a broken shell extractor for his ar-15, they only cost a couple of dollars and will save a lot of trouble..we have one but have not had to use it yet. As for the jamming he might need some green followers for the magazines, which will help to make sure the ammo loads correctly. Hope I was of some help.
As you can tell I LOVE MY AR-15!!!!!!!!!!!

Unusual! I have only seen that happen with laquer coated steel ammo like Wolf. If you need a cleaning kit, I got one and it has a rod that will reach to push out the shell(if not jammed to bad, otherwise it must be extracted by a gunsmith or with a shell extractor) and it fits in the buttstock or on a belt.

I have a friend who had this very thing happen with an Oly. He called the factory, and rather than have him send it back they recommended he polish the chamber with some fine steel wool. He put a bit on the end of a cleaning rod and a drill motor, being careful not to go into the rifling (I believe he blocked the bore with a rod of some sort, to prevent the steel wool from going to far into the throat) and spent about a minute or two polishing the chamber. After that, he had no problems, the gun functioned perfectly. As I recall, he later told me this was not a chrome lined barrel, and he thought perhaps that may have been part of the problem.
You might check and see if the chamber looks a bit rough, maybe compared to another AR. If so, you might consider the fine steel wool. If you or your friend don't feel comfortable doing this, you might have a gunsmith do it. It shouldn't be much of a trick, but I would hate to recommend you do something and have you screw it up further.

I personally would contact the manufacturer first.
A broken shell extractor will remove a cartridge case that has suffered a complete head seperation only. 1010 -
I recently read somewhere where you plug the end of the case, fill the case with the substance they use for chamber casting (c*********) and then push the case out with a cleaning rod. 0 -
My friend did have a shell extractor. The shell was not broken, so it was of no use.

Sounds to me like user error, firing in a dirty chamber with cheap ammo. Sometimes on new AR's it may take few rounds to get the gun broke in, but after that you shouldn't have any problems unless your shooting crumby ammo, or your not keeping up the maintenance on the gun.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
