Mossberg 500 Combo Recoil Reduction

First of all, thanks to all of you experts out there who gave me the feedback a month ago on the Mossberg 500 combo pump action 12ga shotgun. I ordered it on Sunday and am in the kaliforniastani waiting period.

Although I haven't even fired it yet, I know I will probably want to reduce the recoil as much as reasobably possible just to make it as comfortable as possible. I've considered the Hogue replacement stock or having the existing stock trimmed and a nice recoil pad installed.

Do any of you have advice on the most cost effective way to minimize recoil? The field barrel is ported but I don't want to do that to my 18" home defense barrel because of muzzle flash.

  You can put a thick recoil pad on it. I believe Pachmayr makes
  one that is about 1 1/4 inch thick. Also, try standard loads
  instead of magnum. If it is still a problem, you can add a little
  weight inside the stock, and someone makes a weight that attaches
  to the mag. tube (screws on instead of the standard mag. cap).

  a dealer friend that was swamped with orders for the Mossberg 3.5" Mag. Turkey gun when it first came out. He said he had to shoot one
  of them. After he did he said he would not shoot another one!!!!!

  Try a mercury suppressor. I think they are about $50 or so.
