I am inclined to see the WSM's as a flash in the pan, though I may be wrong. I love both of my .257 Roberts, so I would encourage you to give it a go and tell us about how it worked out!

When your finnished with your project let us all know how you like it.
I myself am looking at taking a remington 700 stainless long action and building a 270 wsm. I agree with using a long action so you have plenty of room for long heavy bullets and seting up the round so the bullet is close to the rifling lands.
Even useing the rem short action ultra mag case which is a little shorter then the wsm case, would not give you enough room in the magazine box to work well in the short action.

I would like to here about more people tinkering with these new short magnum cases in different calibers.

This little project will not be completed by the weekend! I'll probably have to cut the dies by using the reamer and since I can get a die blank that won't be a problem. The real fun will be working up the loads. I figure I'll start with 25-284 loads and go from there. I don't think these WSM or Rem SAUM cases are "flashes in the pan!" If this forum had existed in 1976 when Lou Palmisano and Ferris Pindell unleashed their little creation on the shooting fraternity we would have probably seen comments about the "PPC'S" being flashes in the pan!! GHD which case are you going to use for the 257 wsm ...270 7mm or 300 far as i know they are enough different from each other so that one will not chamber in another.

cowdoc, Will probabaly use the 300 basic configuration. The others are modified variations of this one and the shoulders are varied to avoid chambering of a 7mm in a 270 as you have said. My version might vary from the version offered by Winchester a little but it will only be a "VERY LITTLE" and since I'll cut the dies also it won't make any difference until hopefully my great, great grandkids decide to sell the "the old gun that was in the safe".
