I'd rate them this way, although I've never owned one of the Yugo's the Romanian is "known" for its rear sight to fall off ... which to me puts it at the bottom of the list. Other than the gas port being turned off on the Yugo, I don't remember anyone having serious problems with them.
1.Russian
2.Norinco - Threaded
3.Norinco - pinned
4.Yugoslavian
5.Romanian

I agree with Kimber KID but I have never had a problem with a Norinco, however I dont own a Russian SKS,I think there fewer of them around. But most people will tell you the Russian gun is the better of the SKS series Rifles.
Best!!

Norinco Paratrooper SKS Carbine most collectable.
Russians for collecting.
Yugo for shooting and collecting.
Chinese (Norinco) for shooting and customizing.
Albanian for collecting.
Romanian for loosing the rear sight.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

As far as them shooting I've never seen one malfunction, and I've shot quite a few SKS's cause everyone I know has one. Its probably the best darn rifle you can get for $150. The only one I've ever heard of anyone having problems with was those romanians, cause the rear sights pop off during firing sessions. That and when people try to put those aftermarket 30rd magazines on any of them, they don't work worth a darn.
I just remembered, probably the most disirable of all of them would be the Norinco's that used AK magazines.
1)Russian (they made the original)
2)Norinco Paratrooper w/AK mag
3)Norinco Paratrooper
4)Norinco w/AK mag
5)Yugo (Has tritium night sight)
6)Albanian (Haven't heard of many being made)
7)Norinco
8)Romanian

When you talk about Russian SKS, make sure that it is a real Russian gun and not one of the fake ones that KBI sold. I have 2 of the fake guns that were Chinese guns with Russian receiver covers dated in the early 1950's. I found out what they were, when Shotgun News ran an article several years ago giving the serial no. ranges of just about all SKS guns that were available at the time. 0 -
Thankyou for the help. I figured Russian SKS's were the best. Anyone who has ever owned Nagants usually find that Russian made are of far better craftsmanship than others, I figured the SKS would be too 0 -

I had not heard of any "fake" Russian SKS's, but I'm not supprised either ... that made me check mine again since it hasn't been out of the safe for at least 3 years except to be cleaned/oiled. It's stamped: quote:7.62X39 CDI SWAN VT. Made in Russia, CCCP137XX So I'm guessing its "real" ...
Is there any way of finding out what the import date was ... meaning is it before the 89 weapons ban?
Thanks,
kk

I wish I had kept the serial number list that was in the Shotgun News. It listed what year of production for each serial number range for the Russian and Chinese guns. One of mine has a 1952 date on the receiver cover and the serial number indicated a 1966 Chinese gun. Maybe someone else has that list available. I believe the Chinese did this so that they could keep importing their guns after they were banned. The 2 guns I have were sold by KBI. I got one with the regular stock and one with the laminated stock that appear to have been refinished. 0 -
Y'all aint cutting the Yugo's enough slack. My .02 0
