cleaning patches

I have some old model Hoppe's brand that are some sort of artificial, stiff fiber and they work great - wish I could still find them as I prefer them to the cotton types. But many folks, myself included just cut / tear the appropriate size from some rags an those work well, also. I never used a 'factory' patch until I was somewhere in my 20s.

I used to do that, but for me it seemed like a lot of bother to cut them up -that and I seemed to have trouble getting them too big or too small. I remember almost getting the oversized ones stuck in the bore. Don't have the patience or the touch, I guess.

Cut up the old white cotton t-shirts, they work pretty good.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

The sound of a 12 gauge pump clears a house fatser than Rosie O eats a Big Mac !

I almost quit using patches. I wad up toilet paper and/or paper towels (sometimes old pieces of t-shirts, etc.) to a size where it fits snug in the bore then shove it through. It forces its way into the grooves and pushes everything out the end. This same technique is used in cleaning oilfield pipelines called "pigging" where various types of elastomer devices (called pigs) such as balls, cones, etc. are run through the pipelines. It works very well, helps remove loosened particles from the bore, and is cheap. You can do the same thing with the patches also. KG
