T-38 scope bases?
Hi Guys,Had a T38 come in for a rebarell, action had been sporterized,Apparently drilled for 2 piece bases, front hole spacing not standard for weaver, rear holes are.Any ideas or base #s would be greatly appreciated.I prefer to alter base rathe than perforating reciever ring any more than it is.Thanks,Roger---Ps definition of expert(X being the unknown in an equation & a spurt is just a drip under pressure)We have a lot of unknown drips under pressure in the oil patch these days.

Do you have the bases?
Are there #'s or letter's on them?
If not, give me these dimensions:
>Hole center to center- F & R,
>Screw size, and thread,
>Radius of receiver at bases.
Then I will be able to tell you, what will fit.

Hello G&G,Hole spacing on front reciever ring is .965 cntr to cntr,6-48.Jap reciever radius is about the same as SR mauser about 1.30.I have pretty good selection of weaver 2 piece bases to choose from.Judging by the style of bolt alteration it was sporterized many years ago(nicely done).Rear hole spacing is standard weaver short spaced. The book calls for a #70 one piece, but it does'nt even come close to matching. Thanks for the help,Roger 0 -
Sorry for delay. Was down in Georgia till last night.
Please:
>Recheck hole spacing. Could it be 0.960?????
>Radius, how determined-measured?
Do you have any base #'s that you have laid on the reciever, that match, or come very close to the radius(profile)?

Welcome back G&G,I hope it was a pleasure trip.I went ahead and cut & drilled a piece of blank to fit the hole spacing on the front ring.Thought I could get by without the extra effort, but sometimes you just can't.I appreciate you input.I guess I'm starting to get lazy in my old age.An old man told me 30 years ago,if you want to Know the easiest way to do something ask the laziest guy you know. Thanks,Roger 0 -
More tired now than when I left, but a good trip.
Sounds like you've solved it the only way. Blanks are a solution, but a lot of work aren't they!
Just a little tip you might find useful on the 'customized'receivers that are badly out of round for whatever reason.
To relieve stress on the screws since the base won't sit true & level, and it's near impossible on some to match the profile, I use titanium epoxy (or high strength metal epoxy)to make a chemical filler.
Glued to the base, with release agent on the receiver, it makes a strong, perfect fit, and looks good since no gaps are exposed. Plus it allows for rework. I use Loc Tite on the screws not just for fastening, but also as a release agent protecting the screw.
Have fun!
