I don't really understand your question? Are you asking what is the difference between magazines and drums? If so, a magazine is that part of the rifle, pistol, that holds the cartridges. It usually holds cartridges in a single or double row and extends down from below the weapon. A drum is a circular, high capacity cartridge holder that can contain 50, 75 or even 100 rounds of ammo. The AK rifles (and other makes) will accept either standard magazines or drums. If this is not what you were asking, I apologize, please restate your question.
Welcome aboard!

Drums and stick magazines are both magazines. So is the tube under the barrel of rifles and shotguns that contains ammo. Additionally, the compartment under the bolt where ammo is stacked in rifles that dont use a removeable mag like Mausers, the 96 pistol and most bolt actions, is also a magazine. The term clip really applies to a stripper or charger clip which is used for quickly loading military bolt actions and the magazines for military autoloading rifles. Clips dont have a spring for advancing the ammo, just one for holding a group of cartridges together. Straight or stick magazines are widely and incorrectly called clips but everyone knows what is really meant. 0 -

ok... ALL magazines are magazines... ALL drums are magazines... the term "drum" applies to the configuration of the magazine. Look at the old "tommy gun" with the drum magazine. it is circular in shape, resembling a drum. Hence, the name, "drum magazine".We call these, simply, drums. A magazine, by definition, is where the cartridges are stored in a repeating firearm. some are removable, some are fixed in the firearm. a drum is generally a detachable magazine, shaped like a drum, with a high capacity, like you'd see in the tommy gun.
hope this was of value to you... happy shootin', and KEEP SAFE!!!0 -
there is no general answer as to what mags go with AK,The seller should state (or know) if the magazine is intended for the AK or not
There are 50, 75, 100 and perhaps 120 round drum type magazines available for the AK, There are many magzines (flat type) for the Ak that hold from 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 rounds, I believe I saw a 70 round flat magazine (commonly called a "stick" magazine) at a gun show
a while back
if this answer combined with the one before this (which pretty well clears the issue about drums) doesnt answer your question than I think you will need to figure out a different way of asking it0 -
If you're asking which mags are correct for the AK47 it is the 20 and 30 round straight magazines. The 40rd straight mag and the drums are correct for the light machinegun but will also fit the AK47.
If you've ever picked up an AK47 or a Thompson or a PPSH41 with a loaded drum magazine you would see why drums were not popular with soldiers on the move. Loaded drums are heavy and cumbersome.
AK47, 5 and 10 round as well as stick mags over 40 rounds were American innovations.0 -
thanks everybody
