30.06 LOAD FOR COMBO BOAR/WHITETAIL HUNT
I'll be going on a combo boar/whitetail hunt in South Carolina and am looking for a good 30.06 load to use. I now use Remington Ballistic
Tip 165 grain and am very accurate with it. I know its a good load for whitetail, but I'm not sure about boar. The guide said most shots will be around 75-100 yds. I dont hand load. Any opinions?

Stick with what your accurate with. That load at those ranges will take Hogs no question. With good placment they wont get far if they get at all.

I agree with E.Williams. I have rolled over a dozen hogs with the 30-06. I was using the 180 gr. silvertip and it worked very well.Your round should perform just as well. I like the lung shot on piggy but be careful not to hit the front shoulder, there is a lot of good meat on the hog's shoulder, unlike bambi. The best eating is the 150-200lb female. How do you tell a female? The boar has a set of balls on him the size of a grapefruit. My buddy shot a 450 lb monster boar. He got him in the neck with the silvertip in 30-06 and that hog went down like a sack of potatoes. Now that would make a good trophy, if that is what you want and you have eight strong native bearers to drag him out of the swamp. But, no good for eating. That was a stinking hog. The sausage smelled so bad you had to leave the kitchen when frying. We didn't dare taste it, we threw it in the yard and the dog wouldn't eat it. But that 150 lb female, that is better than venison.
