45/70 or 7-30 Waters. If you want a real kicker get a .445 Supermag.

You have a Contender in .223? Better check carefully before you start buying barrels; there are two series of T/C's & they're not interchangeable. The Contender series and the Encore series. You might just have lucked out & gotten yourself an Encore (the more expensive of the two) action with barrel in .223. Don't blow your luck though & try to use that riflescope on this piece - you'll have a black eye (or worse) for the trying. Could be why the seller sold so cheap - scope bit him & now he's gunshy.

I have one of the original 45/70 super 14 w/o muzzle tamer. One word, BRUTAL!!! Also have super 14s in 10mm, 30/30, 223 and 44. If I get a chance, I'll use the 10mm for some deer this year.

Punchie,Brutal is probably the right word.I was right on the gun having a rifle scope on it.I put a 2x9 stainless pistol scope on it this evening, looks better than I thought it would, have not had time to sight in yet.

I have the 45/70 16" w/tamer. It works. With a stock the felt recoil is much less than on the Ruger #3 I had or even my trapdoor carbine.

Did you get an e-mail last night from GHD? I'm coming down the mountain Thursday and should be back your way by 4:30 or 5 at the latest maybe we can shoot a little. If we can I'll bring my xp in 223. I'm not quite sure of the time or if I'll have to keep booking back home but we'll hook-up if possible! GHD

Oh, forgot to mention this! Bring up the TC site or Fox Ridge Outfitters. There is some important info on the interchangability of the barrels. Not all are interchangeable with all frames!!!

4wheeler....If you're looking for something different, you might try a 250 Savage barrel. All around nice shooter and covers a wide range of applications. I have one from SSK Industries in Ohio with a 2X EER from Leopold and it is funnnnnnn....

Also have a 45-70 Handcannon barrel from same manufacturer that is Magna-ported. Have fired everything from 300 grain jacketed with smokeless to 500 grain cast ahead of 70 grains of 2F black powder. The last is a "blast" to shoot, but you need to let the shooters on either side of you at the range know before you touch it off. It is quite "disturbing". But shoots quite well. If you are shooting 500 grainers, you need to roll with the punches...you cannot control the recoil. And wear a thin leather glove to save wear and tear to your hand. Pachmeyer grips are recommended as it may slip from your hand with the standard wooden grips. Enjoy your new toy....max

i also would suggest getting a 45/70 but whatever you do get one with a muzzle tamer and invest in a pair of uncle mikes shooting gloves i went from being able to shoot mine 5 times before the gloves now i can shootit 20 times without hand fatigue also you might want to put a holo sight on it mine is a pleasure to shoot 16" w/muzzle tamer and holo best of luck now watch your money depart from you as you just have to have one more caliber lol

you can be king or street sweeper but everyone is going to dance with the reaper
