springfield arms .22 bolt action help!!!
a good friend whom i serve range officer duty with bought the following firearm:
springfield arms .22 rimfire
single shot bolt action rifle
fires shorts, longs, & long rifles
model number 53-a
reciever has the #25 in a circle on it
i believe this piece was made between 1938 and 1944 by either savage or stevens. the bolt does not function. the piece that pulls back the firing pin(cocking the gun) is broken. we need to buy a new bolt, or the piece in the bolt that broke. he says it is not listed in the numrich arms catalog. any help with parts or a fix for the rifle would be great. any history or info on the gun as well.
does anybody know were to get this part or the whole bolt??? the rifle was purchased to use as a training piece for children and junior members at our clubs upcoming open house/picnic.

See the thread on the parts catalog wanted. I posted a link there to a company in Canada that is probably the largest parts supplier in North America.

You might get lucky with Western Gun Parts, but I wouldn't bet on it. I've called them long distance numerous times from Oregon in search of obsolete parts and they've been able to help me exactly once. Another time they said they had the part, but never shipped. You'll have much better luck with Numrich Gun Parts Corp., or by advertising for your needs. Your friend is correct in that his specific gun is not listed in their catalog, but that does not mean that they don't have the part. They constantly acquire parts in small quantities and they come and go. You have to inquire periodically. You might also try the Jack First Co., 605-343-9544, or some of the smaller parts suppliers listed in the Shotgun News or Gun List. However, I recommend that you take your gun to a gunsmith. This should be a relatively easy fix. I have made or repaired small parts for many old .22 rifles, and any competent general gunsmith should be able to help. The bolt mechanism on these single shot manual cockers is very simple. 0
