.45 ammo for home defense....
Thanks guys for steering me away from Llamas! Now I'm starting my research on 1911's by Springfield Armory.
Anyway, since I intend to use a full size .45 for home defense & I live in an apartment, I was wondering what would be a good round that won't be jam-proned & won't go through walls (hopefully). Thanks again.

Take a look at glaser safety slugs or hydrashocks. those would be my suggestions 0 -
In my honest opinion i will go with the Speer GOLD DOTs. I have read so many test about them that i will not doubt on use in it. I have a PAra- Ordnance P14 on .45 with 3 hi-cap mags and they are fill with the Gold Dots.
If somebody have a better suggestion on home defense ammo let me know.
When u liveD u carry a gun, when u die they take it away from u. DAMMIT!!!:( sEE yOU AT THE GATES0 -

You live in an apartment. Frangible ammo is a MUST. If you have to shoot an armed intruder and miss you don't just risk hitting one of your neighbors. You risk a lawsuit if your bullet goes through the walls and merely passes through your neighbor's apartment. I'd go with a Glaser safety slug. 0 -
I've always been a fan of plain old Winchester White Box Hollow Points. They are priced reasonable, and perform pretty good.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

It probably doesn't matter; if you don't have a safe or steel lockbox bolted to a stud, the odds are at least 500-to-1 that your gun will be stolen by a burglar before you get a chance to use it in self-defense.
But, if you can secure your gun --- as much as I like the .45, I can't recommend it for use in an apartment, even with frangible ammo. I've seen too many slugs of all calibers end up in neighboring units. When my parents insisted on having a gun in their apartment, I gave them a .38 revolver loaded with shot caps (in the first 2 positions), followed by Glaser safety slugs.

Besafe ammo is made especially for people with your concerns, and it sure is devastating on Ballistic Gelatin. Also Corbons new Power Ball is very reliable for feeding in guns that are picky and it mushrooms well.
Best!!

Whatever you do, DON'T use Cor-Bon's High-Velocity hollow-points. I bought a box of their .45 to use at the range because I wanted to see what they were like. Out of the box of twenty, two completely jammed in a vertical position between the slide and the barrel. Maybe I just need to get my feed ramp polished, but I sure wouldn't want to count on them in a life or death situation. A jam like that, though simple to clear, could be fatal. 0 -
Check out RBCD ammo - they have a web site. 0 -
I like the Cor-bon Pow'r Ball, Speer gold dot, Federal Hydrashock, and Remington golden saber. All of these are excellent defensive loads. CCI's 'flying ashtray' is an effective stopper but is prone to feeding problems in an unaltered gov't model. You might want to map your apartment and decide on areas where overpenetration would be a problem and consciously make that a 'no-shoot' zone. That's what I did when I was an apartment dweller and that's what I do now in my home with kids in the other room. JMO
