Winchester Model 290 LR
I just inherited a Winchester Model 290 LR from my father in law. It is new in the original box with all the tags attached, even has the warranty card in there. My mother in law thinks he won it at some time in an auction. He wasn't a hunter. I haven't seen many for sale here, so it might be rare. I would love to take her squirrel hunting but if it is rare or worth much money in this condition I better not. Has a solid walnut stock I believe. I'm sure it is not a laminate. Probably from the 70's. Can anyone give me some advice or info on this gun?

Hey, Lobshot!
The 290 Winchester is basically a deluxe version of the model 190 which are quite common. They came out in '63 along with pump and lever action versions. If you like I can email some pictures to you of the different features of the 290 as they changed during its production run. Early ones had plastic wheel sights, plain stocks and an unusual magazine release. The guns were produced for about ten years with the 190 continuing for a few more before Winchester stopped making new design .22 semiautos altogether (whodathunk?).0 -
Is it very valuable? or would it be ok to do some squirrel hunting with it? 0 -
The Blue Book shows $200 in 100% condition. Also, the stock
is walnut finished hardwood. Made from 1965-1973.
Don't send flowers when I die. Send money now, I can buy more ammo.0
