Punchie- Fluted Chamber??

In regards to a recent question you posted-

"...Spanish CETME that is avail now. It is the predessesor to the HK91 and G1 and as long as you don't reload (Fluted Chamber ruins brass)..."

I gonna need you to educate me! I'm not familer with the term or what classifies a chamber as fluted, or in what manner it ruins brass.

    Inorder to aid extraction, they cut some semi-circular grooves lengthwise in the neck / shoulder area of the chamber (flutes). When fired the brass flows into those grooves leaving ridges on the outside of the neck and shoulder, rendering it unusable for reloading.
    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    I have reloaded many rounds out of fluted 7.62 from an HK 91.
    I can generally get 4-5 out of each piece of brass.
    The necks are annealled and soft.

    Ditto that cpermd! I too have reloaded 1000's of rounds from my HK's ... I don't know where some people get their info, someone knowledgable probably said it somewhere and it has been repeated ever since by people that have never tried it ... if anything would ruin the brass its the big ding in the center of the case that it gets from hitting the ejection port ... and if you get an ejection port buffer that problem is solved ... if anything the fluting at the neck helps to uniform the neck pressure when reloading ... IMHO

    BTW - the current crop of Cetme's are poor comparisons to the originals, I wouldn't call these predessesors to anything ... You are correct in that the original Cetme is a predessesor to the HK-91 but if you look back, the current crop of Cetme clones didn't become avaiable until long after HK-91 clones had saturated the market so how can you call it a predessesor?

    I stand corrected. Practical experience from those that have expetise in that area is invaluable. The current CETMEs "design" is the predessor to the 91. The original guns as imported by MARS were definetly superior to the current crop in quality, however, they are now pricey and hard to find.

    The 91 had considerably more world-wide acceptance as a battle rifle than the one country to use the CETME. Because of this there were many more 91s avail to the public prior to the CETME being released as surplus. Some countries release surplus considerably before others. I, therefore stand by my comment that they are a predecessor to the 91.

    Hello, I have a HK91, the literature with it states that the chamber is fluted because the action is a delayed blowback design with no turning locking lugs on the bolt, instead it has roller cams that extend into cuts in the receiver,the flutes allow the fired cartridge to aid in the delaying of the bolts rearward travel,I have reloaded thousands of rounds for My rifle, I had to obtain small base dies, but other than that no problems, I usually lose the brass before it is worn beyond usefullness.
