I HAVE A TURKISH MAUSER 1938 MODEL, CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO TAKE IT APART. I PRESUME THE BARR. BANDS HAVE TO COME OFF. ANY HELP APP. THANKS 0 -
First check thye rear sight. I have had a turk that the rear sight was lightly bent to the right. To compensate to for this first move the front sight to the left. To correct the the hight check out sarco inc. for a model 96 front sight. This should bring your groupings down. I have seen this done on a M-48. 0 -
Shooting high is a common problem with the milsurps, alas. You need a higher front sight in order to lower the point of impact. I once soldered a piece of a silver ring onto the front sight of a rifle which gave me a higher sight. I added about a half inch to it and then filed it down at the range as i re-sighted it in. This also gave me a light colored sight which was better for deer hunting. It is possible that someone would make a higher front sight for the Turk that you could add on. I bought such a front sight from SAMCO for the Swede Mauser. Maybe Springfield Sporters has one.

On the front site on a Turkish mauser the blade moves left to right to adjust for the left to right shooting. You will have to raise the front site to compensate for the high shooting. 0 -
If memory serves me, The Turks came with different front sites according to the gun. Find someone that converts Mausers to sporting rifles and they should have a ready supply of front site blades.Measure with some calipers and you can find a taller blade. Good luck to you........ 0 -

I bought a Turkish Mauser 8mm from SOG, It was purchased as a low cost shooter and it is just that. It shoots to the right [which I have compensated for] but hits 10" to 12" high at 100m even when rear site is ine the 100 position.
What is the best method by which to correct?
Grind down the front site?
Other means?
Raise the front sight is the correct answer, I have a coule of front sight for a M/96 swedish mauser if you interested? Measure the height of your sight and E_MAIL me Gunsisme@aol.com0 -

Here's the answer! 100 meters is 328 feet!Your point of impact is 12 high. 328ft(100 meters) X 12=3936inches ( number of inches in 328 ft)! 12" (point of impact)divided by 3936 (length of 100 meters)=.0030487805 (very little number). Now multiply this number by the distance between your front and rear sight! This is how much higher your new sight needs to be over the height ofthe existing sight! Hope this helps0 -
