You need special licensing. It's really not worth the effort unless you have a genuine need for the gear.

200 dollars for a license and a lot of headaches plus the cost of the weapon.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

First, you need to wait until you become 21.

Then, you must find a Class III dealer in your state; he will need to arrange the sale/transfer of the weapon, and can guide you through the process. Find out if you can own a Class III in your state, then find the weapon and pay for it, and finally send an application to ATF. You need to be fingerprinted and pass a background check. The $200 is a transfer tax, not a license, and you may need to pay two of them if the weapon comes from anywhere but your local dealer.

I believe that a short barrelled shotgun is considered an "Any Other Weapon" and requires only a $5 transfer fee. Of course, they are worthless unless you plan a career robbing convenience stores.

I think the other guys may be right: it's a lot more trouble than it's worth.

In the meantime, I suggest that you join the National Rifle Association and read the American Rifleman magazine that they will send you each month. A subscription to Guns & Ammo would also be helpful. And, of course, keep reading this forum.

    hmm...

    thx
it does seem like an awful lot of trouble...

    what about destructive devices
    SPAS12 to be more precise
would thaat be $200 or $5?

    PEACE!

I believe that you have confused the SPAS12 with the Striker/Streetsweeper, which is a Class III weapon ($200). The SPAS12 is just an ordinary shotgun, although large and intimidating; it's hardly worth the $1,000 or more they bring, at least to those of us who have to earn our money.

STRIKER/STREETSWEEPER ARE NOT CLASS THREE. THEY ARE A SPECIAL CLASS. "DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE" AND TAKE A SPECIAL REGISTRATION INCLUDING LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENY APPROVIAL.

I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

I don't have a "genuine need" for anything other than food, water, and shelter. I buy what I WANT because I can, it's what the U.S. is all about. I'm saving up for a Howitzer, because I can!

    HOWTIZERS ARE AVIALABLE!

CLASS3, IS NOT THAT BIG OF A PAIN to get.

buying say a mac10 for $1000 is good insurance to put with the others in your safe, seems that local police dont care about recovering your stolen weapons if no class3 is involved.

OH man your guns were stolen, sorry, no cops show! Or if they show they wont investigate.

BUT you add a machinegun into your safe & they will start looking for your goodies. then they come out & take fingerprints, pic & actualy do a investigation. Even the ATF will investigate!, as a federal crime!

THE DRAWBACKS! - if you dont lead a CLEAN life, dont get a class3!
the atf will do a FULL! background check, no felonies allowed!
it also takes the local sheriff to sign off.

first find a class3 dlr in your state to receive the incoming transfer.

select the weapon you want & pay for it. the selling dlr will transfer the gun to the receiving dlr, takes apx 6 weeks for paperwork to clear atf

yes there is a $200 tax stamp, plus most class 3 dealers will charge $50 to recieve the weapon, and hold it while your paperwork goes through.

states that i know that dont allow class3, ca,ny,hi,nj,il ,
then after the paperwork is sent to the atf wait is about 6mos.

    hope this helps! walter

    dd's are a $200 tax = gernades, land mines, RPG's, streetsweeper & spa shotguns & howitzers!

all machine guns, short barrel rifle, short barrel shot gun all with stocks = $200

    silencers= $200

the best nfa deal is the $5 tax stamp! for aow's
aow = all other weapons $5 tax = a weapon with no stock!, penguns, caneguns, krikov's with no stock, short barrel shot guns no stocks

    now your really confused

Mentioning penguns, you mean of course the older penguns that did not fold out to about a 45 degree angle to fire. The newer penguns made by Stinger are not class 3, as were the Braverman Stingers and the American Derringer penguns.

Just thought that I would throw this in, since some believe incorrectly that a pengun is a pengun....

Well as you can see here there are a number of post that suggest what you should do, and that is your decision. BUT if you live in N.Y., N.J., Ill., CA., or WA. states you won't be able to legally purchase a Class III weapon(I think these are the only ones). They have State laws against it. Good Luck! ...Mark
