The last of the Detective Specials from Colt, manufactured from 1997 to 1999. A very few made in .357 magnum. The .38 Special is capable of using +P Ammo, something none of the earlier Detective Specials were recommended to use. Stainless Matte finish with Hogue Presentation Rubber grips. Excellent carry gun. A New In The Box .38 Special generally brings $450 to $550 depending on the buyer's wants and the seller's needs to get rid of it. Never seen a .357 or heard of one selling, although the Colt Catalog did list them in 1999.
There was also a "Magnum Carry" which was a different gun but very similar which came in .357 only. These are not often seen as only a few were made also.

IF your talking about a DS second issue, NEW in box, which is hard to find, around 300.00, the first issue is another story.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys! Someone has hinted about selling one and it sounds very tempting. I just love snubbies.
