Bore brush

I generally use ordinary bronze brushes when scrubbing bores, and ordinary bristle steel if using copper solvent. However, I recently tried something called "the tornado brush" by Hoppes. It is made of stainless steel and looks like a bunch of small springs arranged in a whirly shape. It is very stiff. And boy does it work. I had a barrel so clean that no residue was coming out on patches; then I used the tornado brush and actual paste started coming out again, jet black. Now to my question. The package says this thing won't hurt bores; but it just seems to me that stainless steel going down a regular steel bore is a bad idea. I am inclined to only use the thing occasionally, or on stainless barrels. What do you all think?

  I have used them in shotguns and see no real problem given the curved shape of the wire. I have not seen them for rifles and wonder how they would clean down into the grooves.
  
  I switched to Butch's Bore Shine and almost never resort to a brush any more.

  Jon, I have the tornado brushes in most sizes and use them. They seem to do an adequate job. I also use the standard brushes in both bronze and stainless. If one is using the latter, I doubt the tornado would do anything more abrasive. But I have to second what HeDog says on the BBS - I've never, ever, seen anything work so well. I plan to try the Blue Wonder cleaner when I place my next order w/ Midway. Several folks here have given it high marks.

  jonk: I like the tornado for revolver cylinders. I hate to put anything down the bore which is harder than the bore.

  Seems to me like it would be great on shotguns,but I dont believe it could be to healthy on rifling or the crown of the muzzle.
