Remington Model 4 Barrel - Interchangeable w/???

I have a Remington Model 4 in 308. The problem is the barrel has throat erosion. Trying to figure out if a Model 742 or Model 7400 barrel will interchange. Anyone know for certain?

  742 will not fit. The extension and locking recesses are different.
  7400 will fit, but will probably have to be headspaced. Easier fix
  would be to rechamber to 30-06 to go beyond the erosion. If the throat is eroded farther than that, it's new barrel time. Another
  fix is to keep your extension and spin an after market barrel into
  the extension.

  how in hell did you keep a m-4 shooting long enought to have throat erosion?? (4000/5000 rds)

  Thanks for the information BT99. I really wanted to keep it a 308. As I already have a 30/06 742. But this may be the cheaper proposition. Then just find another Rem in 308.
