anyone have a good 6.5-06 improved load?
I have a 6.5-06 improved (ackley 40 degree) with a 26" stainless lilja barrel in 1:8 twist. I know that I am on the heavy side of the twist range, and therefore must shoot heavy bullets to get stabilization. I have the sierra 142gr BTHP match bullets, and man are they long. Anyway, I am having a problem getting this one in the ballpark of a good group. I am wondering if I shouldn't step her out to 200yds and see if the group doesn't tighten up. Sometimes those long, heavy, high BC bullets don't steady up until after 100yds. Anyone?,..........anyone?............

For the 140 grain bullet, Ackley lists 51 and 53 gr of 4350 giving 2920-3095 fps & 53 and 55gr of 4831 for 2950-3065 fps using a 10" twist barrel. 0 -
I have had excellent success with this chambering and 139 Lapuas with H1000. I would start at about 57 grains and work up from there.
