UPS Shipping
I got this off another forum.Anyone know anything about this?

I want to ship my barreled action out of state to be repaired.
The repair shop has no FFL. UPS wants a FFL to ship.
Any options??

I don't know if I'd trust a "Repair Shop" that didn't have a FFL.
How does this person suggest you 'legaly' ship the barreled action to him ?
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
Its a metal fabrication shop. Does great welding
work.

I have sent many firearms UPS and never been asked for FFL proof. They are overstepping the scope of their service. All they need to know is that it is being sent for repair, and unloaded. It should be sent in such a way as to not be obviously a firearm. UPS has a copy of rules pertaining to firearms shipments that you need to read with the supervisor. I had problems such as this at one office and had to take them step by step to help them translate their own rules. If problems persist with this office go to the next town closest to you and send it as machined parts. I assume you offered the fact that it was a firearm, as many times I have sent rifles without ever being asked what was in the box. 0 -
A "Barrel only" does not require an FFL reciever. A copy of FFL is not required to send a part to any gunsmith or repair faculity. Read the AFT rules to avoid misinformation being disseminated.

I want to ship my barreled action As that term normaly denotes the receiver is included in the shipment, the advise about needing a FFL is valid.

A non-FFL individual that owns a firearm...(a barreled action is considered as a firearm since the "action" is the receiver)may ship that firearm to a repair facillity, without the need of an FFL. As to which carrier is used and / or if it's a handgun or long gun is not part of the discussion...I believe the Gentleman is questioning the need of the recipient...(repair shop /metalsmith)to be a FFL holder...
I don't know about that, but wouldn't the same laws, rules, principals apply to shipping a handgun to a nickel plater to be refinished??? Does the plating shop have to have a FFL???????

US Title 27,part 178.30:
Out-of-state disposition of firerarms by nonlicensees
No nonlicensee shall tranfer,sell,trade,give,transport,or deliver any firearm to any other nonlicensee.

US Title 27,part 178.31
Delivery by common or contract carrier
(a)No person shall knowingly deliver or cause to be delivered to any common or contract carrier for transfer or shipment in interstate or foreign commerce to any person other than a licensed importer,licensed manufacturer,licensed dealer,or licensed collector,any package or other container in which there is any firearm or ammuntition without written notice to the carrier that such firearm or ammunition is being transported or shipped: etc,etc.
