What exactly is LUBALOX on Winchester bullets?
Is this some sort of moly coating under a proprietary name? Is it different? What is it supposed to do, if it isn't moly?

It's something like a hard wax coating on their bullets. Western calls it lubaloy. Here is what Western says about it.
"Bullets plated with Lubaloy (lubricated alloy) by a patented process.
What I can figure is, it must have something to do with the copper like coating on the bullets.0 -
That was some of the crap that fouled my barrel a while back. 5-6 shots and it would start to sling the bullets. Clean it, and same thing. Anyone having any luck with this stuff?

Have had no problems with it. Actually helped keep my barrel from fouling so quick.

bullelk, I will give it a try, but the wife has me on gun probabtion.
I shot that stuff and when the bullets began to open the group up from 1/2' to 3/4" or even 1", I decided to inspect the barrel. I noticed small balls forming in the barrel, that could be seen when using a light or even holding it up to the sun and looking through it. If I cleaned it, it would come back to one hole at 100yds, but only for 5 shots or so. I wonder if the hammer forged barrels in the Sendero have some property which dislikes the lubalox. I never really have a fouling problem because no more than 10 bullets max, go through my barrels before a thorough cleaning. I just can't seem to figure out why the coatings don't work for me.
Will270win, how many rounds before your barrel started to foul with non-coated bullets? What caliber?

How about if you tried wiping off some of that coating somehow. Just an idea. Don't know if it will work.

My 308 was only getting about 50 rnds with copper jacket stuff before the group size got enormous. I got the Lubalox CT bullets and haven't seen that problem again. I think barrels are picky about that stuff sometimes because my other 308(browning)just hates the stuff. Weird is all I can say. I am currently switching over to V-max moly now as they are cheaper and i get even more through a barrel before fouling opens the groups. I pre-soak the bore for less "settling" shots. I do three to settle and easily get 75-90 before accuracy is badly affected. Coatings are a weird thing at times.

will270win, that makes me feel better to know that I am not the only one finding these coatings to be finnicky in different guns. I guess I won't see the difference, because I clean the barrel every 10 shots or so. Maybe I will try another box of moly loads.
bullelk, I would think that if I wiped off some of the caoting and didn't get it completely even, I might have an accuracy problem, but I may just give it a try on 1/2 of the next box. It can't get any worse, right?
