winchester 1892 Carbine
I would like to purchase a Winchester 1892 .44-40 carbine. I am told they come in both walnut and gumwood stocks. Is there a big difference in appearance and value? Any suggestions as to date I should buy? Any help or offers would be great.

Do you necessarily have to have a winchester produced one? There are a few companies making reproductions of the 92, in various calibers and qualities. Pick up a shotgun news, I've seen them being advertised in there.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

If you really want one be prepared to pay $1,600.00 to $2,250.00 for an good/excellent one. For an good/excellent 1892 in walnut with fancy pistol grip checkered wood (deluxe model) you are probably looking at an additional 50%. Additionally you mentioned 44-40 WCF that just added another 25%.
