Neoglo, I'm probably about as "green" as you are at this, but here's a start, something for you to consider: The Blue Book is probably a better source of value info, but your Fox Sterlingworth in gauges 12, 16 & 20 is described on page 38 of 13th edition (2001) of Modern Guns by Steve & Russell Quertermous. Their estimated values range thusly:
    Fox Sterlingworth: $705.00 - $880.00
    Fox Sterlingworth Deluxe: $970.00 - $1,200.00
    Fox Sterlingworth Skeet: $1,050.00 - $1,320.00
They note premiums such as "add $75.00 for automatic ejectors", "add $50.00 for selective trigger",etc.
I have generally found the Quertermous values to be lower than retail and more like what a dealer might offer for the gun...I have found that 30% to 35% over the Quertermous estimate to be more like the prices I see at gunshows etc. Good luck with your double, the photos are nice. I'm just now closing on a "Sweet Sixteen" otherwise I might have made you an offer. Best, Jim

    Timbroman,
I thank you for your help. After doing research on a few earlier guns, I thought I started to learn something. The only thing I learned was that I did not know 'near' as much as I need to learn and want to learn.

16 Gauge has fallen from favor in recent years which probably accounts for his saying it is worth less. It is still a great caliber, used by many knowledgeable shotgunners. You will always get less from a dealer than retail because they have to make a living, but sometimes it is worth it if they have something you want to trade for, or really need to sell it now. You can always sell it later.

I think that Tim is pretty close on the pricing. A few pictures that show the wood could help in evaluating it though. (Does look like a very nice piece!)

    neoglo,

Looks to be an excellent gun. If bores are mint I would beat all cash offers. FYI/ perhaps doing myself in, the lever is to the right, indicating little usage. smhco@juno.com
