what should I do?

I came down with ms and lost the use of my right hand (I'm right handed). Would like to hunt with a pistol with my left hand. I've been looking at a used contender or encore. What size cartridge, barrel should I consider? How about a mussel brake? About what price should I be paying? Scope, holoscope or iron sights? I hunt in Western New York and shots would be inside 175 yards. I need help with input. My left hand is strong and I know I have to teach myself to shoot again due to right eye dominance. Any help with this would really be appreciated. Thanks to all for their input!

You might want to consider a used Savage striker in a caliber you feel comfortable with.I would buy the gun and practice a little before I made my final sight decision.A muzzle break may not be a bad Idea, but not a must. The Encore is a fine weapon and you can buy different barrels for it.As far as price goes do a little checking,Ive seen some great buys here at Gun Broker. Hope this helps.

    Happy Hunting!!

One handed, I wouldn't go much over 223 or 22-250. I have shot the Encore in 7mm-08 and it is way too much for a one handed operation. As far as sights, take a look at the leupold red dots or a holo sight,

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

Don't know much about which weapon to select. But as for sights, try the holosight. They are very good for people with cross dominant eyes (i.e. Shooting left handed with right eye dominance or vice versa).

I am left eye dominant but right handed. The holosight works great! It is very easy to acquire quickly and all but eliminates parallax.

By the way....I greatly admire your resolve to take a bad situation and make the best of it. It would be easy to get mad at the world and lose yourself in self doubt and pity, but you show great strength in dedicating yourself to relearning how to do something you really love.

    Best of luck with it!
