History: box mag

So I was just watching " Tales of the Gun" that I had recorded, and
I know that they leave info out when it does not pertain to the topic.
(like not talking about the Schofield's superiority in speed of use
when talking about the benefits of the Peacemaker)
What I am wondering is this: Was the Remington Lee bolt action (that preceeds the Lee-Enfield) the first firearm to utilize a Box magazine?
Did Lee invent the box mag?

Is it a good idea to teach a girlfriend to shoot?

  Not sure but it might have been the first bolt action with a box mag, yes. I do believe Lee invented it anyhow.

  So, curiosity has me in its grasp and it is driving me nuts.
  I found a pic of the Lee 1879 action, does anyone know if there
  is a box mag previous to that date?
  I also found that Lee and one of his employees got a patent in
  March of 1884 for a "ribbed sheet metal magazine which retained cartridges when detached" and that the patent was assigned to Remington......courtesy of John Walter "the Guns that Won the West"
  
  And my non-shooting friends joke that one should make sure one is nice
  to the girlfriends and ex's one teaches to shoot. I have not had
  any problems yet....yet

  Actually,the Sharps Rifle Co. began production of the Lee Magazine Rifle in the year 1877. The rifle had the box magazine at that time. Remington did not take over production until Sharps went out of business in 1881.
