Springfield M1-Garand
My wife has recently approved the purchase of a gun Ive wanted for a while.Springfield Armorys M1 garand,I have had a hard time justifying the price tag.Well now Springfield is offering the gun with a lot of extras. My dealer can get me the gun for $1295.00 and a $100.00 rebate and all of Springfields extras, plus a lifetime warranty. What do you guys think is it worth it? Or should I go with one of the cheaper models? I would really appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance.

RUGSTER,
Too much! Buy an original from the CMP. www.odcmp.com
$500.00. Will be original and hold its value. 1010 -
Do you understand that these new M1's are made by Springfield Armory Incorporated, a private company, not by the US government Springfield Armory? Are you aware that the receivers are cast, not forged? Did you know that the oversize stocks don't fit the rifle properly like those made to USGI specs?
Airborne's advice is good.

If you want a "collectable" Garand for shooting, go with what the CMP is offering. You take the luck of the draw with what you get but - for the cost of a new Springfield M1 - you'll have a lot of money left over to build your own to your liking with new parts (excet the receiver, of course). 'Course it'll lose it's inherent value as a collector's item if you do this. You might even end up without having to spend anything a all, depending upon your needs, shooting skill, & ultimate use.
Another source of M1's is . They'll take your CMP rifle in trade & give you credit for the receiver against a rebuilt rifle's purchase price.0 -
Sorry - I mis-typed the URL above. It should be: instead. 0 -
For the money your talking about you owe it to yourself to check out some highly collectable Beretta made Garands of far superior quality at this web site.
http://reesesurplus.com/
They have standard Beretta made Garands new in box for $1,250.00, or for a bit more you can get a BM59 or BM69.
On the BM59's, I've been impressed that they are as inexpensive as the are considering they are pre-ban firearms (takes 20 round detatchable mags in .308). New dealer price is $1695.00. The standard model has an 18" barrel with combination flash hider/muzzle brake/grenade launcher and launcher sight as the standard muzzle attachment. Also standard is the bayonet lug, bipod, and winter trigger.
This is Beretta's version of an updated Garand, the direction Beretta took the Garand on opposed to the M14. The detatchable mags can also be loaded via stripper clips through the open action. With an abundance of close tolerance ground details I'm not the only one who thinks the quality surpasses Springfield Armory.
Springfield Armory was the importer of Beretta BM59 and Beretta made Garands before the ban. Reese Surplus bought them out.
