what scope is good for a 22?
I just purchased a ruger 10/22 target with the factory heavy barrel
and laminated stock in 22 long rifle caliber,my question is do i HAVE to use a scope with an adjustable objective or a "rimfire" model with paralax set at 75 yards,
I have my heart set on the leupold VX1 2-7x33 but it is a traditional "Big Game" scope with the paralax set for 150 yards would that be a problem?
this rifle was purchased strictly for tree squirels,coons and very close range wood chucks any advice on the proper scope for my application would greatly be appreciated.Thank you gentelman.

Personally I rather hate the appearance of a traditional style scope on a bull barreled 22. Just makes the whole futuristic look of them go right down the drain. I prefer red-dot or reflex type optics. My favorite on a 10/22 is the origianal Gen I Bushnell Holosights, they were the best, I just don't like the new body style. Also for some reason Aimpoint scopes seem to look pretty nice. C-more optics scopes also seem to perform just as well, and look just as good. But on non-bull barrel 22's, I try to find those old vintage style 22 scopes. I always see them on gunbroker for about $25-35, and they seem to work excellent for the price.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

I also use a ruger 10/22... Im gonna bestow some wisdom here...I hunt ground squirells with mine... I tend too find that a variable power scope is not necessarry for the .22 cal... most of your shots on tree squirells will be relatively close and personal. However I do suggest useing a scope with a large objective lens. It will make finding your small furry targets easier. Id say at least a 40mm objective. I have a 4x bushnell on mine... nine times out of ten, when hunting squirells you shall also notice they dont stay still long enough too adjust your scope anyway.. just my two cents anyway.

Non-adjustable parallax will cause fits at close range unless you have your eye in the EXACT same spot every time. You can see a good example of this when you have the scope on a rest and move your head and see the cross hairs move on the target. Try hitting the same place twice and that's when the frustration starts - move the target in or out and everything changes again.
I've tried to adjust my hold and sight pattern and improved the situation, however it is a problem and will continue to be until my new scope - with adjustable parallax arrives sometime next week.
Give it your best and see what happens for you, personally I won't make that mistake again.0 -

I have used the 4x32 Tasco Pronghorns,with mixed results.I have about three 22s with them on it,and they work well.I like the Simmoms 8 pointer as no. 1 choice. I put a Tasco Pronghorn on a 22 mag I have and was attempting to line it up and the cross hairs began to turn inside the scope.I took it back and exchanged it for another one.Lined the gun up with no problems,and I was shooting it one day and I noticed it was begining to turn on me.Thats when I spent a few extra Dollars and bought the Simmons 8 pointer.It is a fine scope.But my other Tasco Pronghorns are working well.But Tasco has filed Bankruptsy and have some good prices on their top quality scopes.I hope an American company buys Tasco and runs it.But another Optics company probably will,and shut it down just to eliminate the competition.

I agree with Myjack and ATF. I learned the hard way and did not get an Adjustable Objective style scope the first time on my 10/22. I am now looking for a replacement. I have no suggestions on which scope to buy only the advice to buy quality and you won't be disappointed.

leupold makes a 2-7x28 rimfire scope. This may be what you want. 0 -
i have a 3x9 on mine and with these old eyes it seems every year or two i have to turn it up another notch. i am up to five now. it is very clear and works just fine for squirrels and small game. i dont have the bull barrel but cant see that ,that would make much difference. mine is on a clark custom,with avery small dia. barrel. the only complaint i have is when target shooting and you get about 50 rounds through it it starts to move low right as the barrel heats up. i really like the burris scopes. I use a 4x12x40 w/AO head Bushnell on my 10/22 with great results. I like to shoot at a blank piece of paper, then shoot at the hole I made. The higher power and AO head make this easy.
