    No I wouldnt or you can damage or ruin your firing pin. You can buy snap caps at nearly any gun shop or catalog,and their inexpensive.

    A good rule of thumb is: don't dry fire anything. While it will not hurt some things like revolvers, it cannot possibly hurt to use snap caps to be sure. I store my rifles with a snap cap in the chamber and let the spring in the snap cap support the firing pin not the firing pin spring. Same with shotguns.

    If you had ever changed a fireing pin in a model-12 you wouldn't have to ask this question. LOL Use snap caps.
