98 action question

I am sporterizing a 98 LR mauser and I am wondering if I can rebarrel it in 260rem even though it is a long action. Can I modify the magazine follower? Thanks.

  Yes you can rebarrel it to 260 Rem. With the longer action, you can have it custom throated to the bullet of your choice and seat the bullet out further for more powder capacity. The magazine follower should work as it is, if not, you should be able to get a new one from Brownell's

  I would suggest that you use a new follower spring on your conversion. I've found that it really helps feeding with the shorter rounds.
