THE REISING DESIGNED H&R PRODUCED MODEL 65 IS WORTH ABOUT $300 IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. i'VE SEEN THEM OFFERED AND SOLD FOR MORE, AND FOR LESS. IT'S A GREAT SHOOTER AND SOLID AS A ROCK. H & R WENT ON TO PRODUCE SOME SLIMMED-DOWN VERSIONS OF THIS RIFLE AS THE MODEL 150 AND 165. ALL USE THE SAME MAGAZINES, WHICH ALSO INTERCHANGE WITH THE BOLT-ACTION MODELS; 250, 265, 451 AND 465.
THE BOLTS ON THE SEMI AUTOS ARE HEAVY; BE SURE TO USE HIGH SPEED AMMO OR EVEN STINGER-CLASS ROUNDS FOR RELIABLE CYCLING.

    According to Blue Book,

    The H&R Model 65 Military .22lr, 10shot, 23" brrl, w/Redfield Aperature rear sight, mfg 1944-1946 for USMC.

    100% $250, 98% $230, 95% $200, 90% $165, 80% $145, 70% $130.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

BLUE BOOK IS USUALLY WAY OFF BASE FOR .22 RIFLES. TRY FINDING A MODEL 65 FOR SALE; NOT OFTEN SEEN OR OFFERED. YOU'RE LUCKY TO SEE ONE A YEAR IN "GUN LIST".

Honestly, blue book prices are usually lower than I see them selling for, but they do a good job of giving a decent base price. Afterall, there are things to consider that they can't do anything about, such as price differences according to location. Some guns will bring a higher premium in California or NJ. And some states have laws that prevent certain firearms from being sold there, and only existing ones in the state that were grandfathered in can be sold there, so they will bring a higher premium in that state. There is also some firearms that new import shipments of them come in, and they sale at bottom line prices in shotgun news for three months, though the blue book says they are worth three times as much.

If memory serves, I saw a Reising 65 on gunbroker auction a while back, and I remember it going for over $300. Its not something you see around alot, though there are quite a few that exist in decent or better condition, they are not a current production firearm, and are kept in private collections, so the only time you'll see one is when someone decides to part with it or dies. And it is one of the cooler looking 22's of its day. Meaning the gun will probably demand a higher premium than the blue book lists.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

The Reising Models M50 & M55 are indeed fully automatic firearms (i.e., machineguns), as is the Thompson. However, unlike the Thompson which fires from an Open Bolt postion, the Reising fires from a Closed Bolt position.

As far as similarity in appearance to the Thompson ... well, Reising used to promote it as looking like the Thompson, but the only features similar in appearance are the finned barrel and muzzle compensator. Other than that, they are completely diffent in design, form, fit and function.

    FWIW ...

Seven years later if wrmfisher has not found out the value of his Reising by now he is never going to do so.

wrmfisher's last visit to Gun Broker was 15 July, 2002 so I am betting that he has whatever information he was looking for and won't be coming back to read anything added seven years later.
