MY grandfather used to let me take his old Spanish made double barrel 10gauge for turkey and what not and I shot steel bb with no problem.10 gauge barrels are made very heavy duty especially the older guns,I dont think you would have any trouble whatsoever.

I beleive tungsten is a hardened form of steel.I know they have used it in knife blades before.

The problem is not whether the barrels can handle the pressure, which should be similar unless it's a BP weapon (and 70s manufacture makes that highly unlikely), but if they will become scored from the shot. It's a crap shoot whether or not a particular older firearm has bores of sufficient hardness to withstand the harder shot. Conventional wisdom is that one should use Bismuth shot in such weapons if hunting where non lead loads are required. Tungsten is a different element than iron. I don't know the relative hardness, but would suggest you contact Remington or other companies making the various tungsten loads as I'm sure they could tell you.
