i've got one in a remington m700 mtn rifle and it packes a good kick in a light gun, but i love the gun and cal. 0 -
Cannot accurately answer the question, unless comparing the same rifle, and load.
Energy comparison is easy, just look at ballistics charts.
But that's not recoil.
Some influencing factors are: load, stock composition, stock design, butt pad, barrel length, barrel type-bull vs pencil, open sights vs optics, even grip design, etc.
Example: two rifles - one a Weatherby Fibre Mark in 7mm Wby. Mag, and the other a Ruger RL(ultra lught) in .308 Win.
The Ruger with it's much smaller sizes, and weight has much more "Felt Recoil" the the Weatherby. The Ruger was eventually Magna-Ported which tamed it down quite a bit. Except for the noise.

I would say 1/3 less recoil for the .280.The 300s recoil will be much more noticed.
Good Luck.

Recoil is mild (IMO). You will be able to shoot 2 times as many bullets before you get sore, compared to the 300WM.
A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.0
