    There were about 25,000 of these manufactured between 1965 and the Mid 70's. Prices, according to the Blue Book of Gun Values range from about $100 to $325 for a nice 100% gun. However, anyone with one in 100% condition with box, paperwork, etc., is probably a collector and knows that $450 would be a good buy! Hope this helps!

    I have a stagecoach that I got in 1972. They are nice little rifles and very accurate.

    I was told by a guy whose information is usually right on the mark, that these rifles were made by Franchi for Colt, anyone know for certain?

    The Colteer, Stagecoach and Courier .22 automatics were made in the Colt factory.

    Antique Dr. I checked with My usually reliable source and he informed Me that the Colt auto shotguns were made by Franchi, My mistake, He said He was not familiar with the .22 rifles, He did say that Colt did import a lot of guns from other countrys and put their name on them, Astras and Stars from Spain were sold as Colt pistols with no import markings

    I could be mistaken here, but the only Pistols I know of that Colt had their name on that were made by someone else were the "Colt Junior" in .22 Short and .25 acp caliber. Colt thought maybe they could make a lot of money by getting someone else with cheaper labor to make the gun and they sell it at a mark-up.......may or may not have worked. Colt provided the design and expertise for these particular pistols and had Astra make them. In turn, Astra made identical guns with their name on them, also. If Star made any Colt Pistols, I am unaware of such a gun. Anybody out there know?

    Colt Rifles and Shotguns are another matter. However, the Colteer series of which the Stagecoach was the top of the line of the three .22's were manufactured by Colt in their own factories. The high powered rifles and shotguns, I am told, had several different manufacturers. I do not know about these.

    I asked My friend the, Gun Guru, and He said Colt marketed a .380 pistol back in the 60s called the "Pony" that was made by Star Bonifacio"??? I'm not sure of His spelling, but this guy is old, and knows a heck of a lot more than I do, I found a listing for a Pony in the Blue Book, but it says series 90? but no other listing for an older model called Pony. I guess Antique Dr. or Judge Colt might know.

    That was Iver Johnson, not Colt. Firearms International out of Washington DC also marketed the pistol as the Model D, I believe.

    the story about the colt pony .380 is to long to post here but the highlights are;

    colt was approached about joint venture with star after the infamous 1968 gun laws

    project with far enough along for colt to include it in their 1973 catalog

    colt backed out (reason unknown)probably 50 or less marked with colts name on them

    f.i. of washington dc (who was the middle man) manufactured and sold about 40,000 of them with a cpa serial number prefix

    in 1978 iver johnson purchased the rights to the .380 pony and manufactured less than 100,000 of them

    full details on this pistol will be in my revised book on iver johnson handguns due in early 2003 from publisher blacksmith corp.

    RP, good information on the Colt rifles.

    Doctor, good to see you back!

    b.goforth, excellent information correcting the previous posts. The Colt Pony is one of the real rarities in the Colt collector world for the reason you state. Let us know when you publish your IJ book so we may purchase a copy.
