Pistol Safe

I'm trying to find a good small pistol safe with an electronic lock. I've found the Gunvault Minivault, the Mossberg InstantAccess Safe, and the DAC Technologies Safe. Does anyone have any opinions on these or any other small safes. I want it primarily to keep my little girl's hands from getting my pistol, but I also want something that's secure and easy to open in the dark.

  The gunvault is a little more expensive but they are quick to access.And no one can open it but you. Welcome aboard youwill find some very knowledgeable people here.

  Whichever one you get, run a couple of lag bolts through it into a wall stud. That will give you additional protection against any burglar who would otherwise take it with him.

  I have the Mossberg. I can't compare with the others because I'm not familiar with them, but here's what I like about mine:
  
  1. There are two batteries, one inside and one accessible from outside, either one of which is sufficient to work the electronics.
  
  2. You can set your own 4-digit code.
  
  3. If someone (a kid) messes with the keypad but doesn't put in the right code, it starts beeping until the right code is entered. That way, you know that someone was messing with it.
  
  4. The pad illuminates when you touch it.
  
  5. You can get extra base plates so that you can move it around. Once it is open, there is a latch inside that you can pull to release it from the baseplate. I have two different locations.
  
  6. Mossberg does not recommend screwing it into a wall, but I don't see why that wouldn't work if you have the right wall stud configuration. Obviously, you wouldn't want to screw it into the dry wall. I have had people tell me they screw theirs into the floor boards under the bed. (Wife might not go for that.)
  
  7. It is small enough to fit inside a bedside table if you want but it can hold two guns. (Well, not two Uzis.) If burglary is a big problem in your neighborhood, you probably will want to screw it into something larger or the floor.
  
  8. Price wasn't too bad, about $200 plus shipping.
  
  "They" say not to store a loaded gun or store a gun with the ammo. I think that's to get "them" off the hook legally. I store my pistol unloaded, but with a 2/3 loaded magazine in the safe with it. That way, if I should need it in a hurry, I can put the magazine in and release the slide in about a second. That was about the best compromise between safety and availability that I could figure out.
