Does anyone know about the range of serial numbers that preban stopped. I looked at one the guy said he had since 1986, however it didn't have a bayonet lug. The gun did include an extra flashhidder with a bayonet lug, a bayonet, 3 clips 20 rounders, a shell deflector and a birch stock. He wanted $1000.00, how does the price sound. P.S. gun was excellent condition. THANKS

  If I were you I would buy the Springfield loaded M-1.Its ready to go right out of the box.

  Price sounds a little high --- like about $500 too high.
  
  Fed Ord receivers were usually too far from milspec to install USGI parts without expert gunsmithing. While a few early Fed Ords had USGI parts and may be worth saving, most had crude Chinese parts that were junk, including the stained softwood stock.
  
  Don't know about serial #s, but all post-ban Fed Ords had a fake flash hider that had depressions, rather than cuts. I'd be surprised if the "extra" flash hider has the same threads as the barrel.
  
  Personally, I wouldn't own a Fed Ord at any price, but for $1,000, you can get a used SA Inc that will always hold its value.

  I had one, the receiver was so soft you could cut it with a pocket knife,I showed it to A local Gunsmith and He said the Chinese were closer to milspec than the Fed.Ord. Go with Springfield, more money but more quality and that is the better value.

  $1000 is a rip-off for that gun. The guns were manufactured in 1986-1991. So if it doens't have a fairly low serial number, then he probably hasn't had it that long. But the date of manufacture doesn't really effect the value on this particular gun. By Excellent condition, I'm guessing you mean 90-95% overall condition. Blue book lists 95% at $495 and 90% at $450. Also according to the blue book they were made from refinished original GI surplus components on Fed. Ord. Recievers, but during the end of production when some chinese made parts were used. Original MSR was $700 according to blue book.
